Congratulations to SAGE Electrical Apprentice Ty Borlance who has received top honors at the South Australian Group Training Awards, being named 2009 Apprentice of the Year.

Ty was presented with the award at Government House on 17 February, by The Governor of South Australia, His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR.

The awards, open to South Australian Apprentices from across all industries, almost 4,000 in South Australia, are all about the individual, both on and off the job.

Pat Bosco from The South Australian Group Training Awards said that TY was a stand-out applicant and commended him for his engagement as an ambassador for SAGE, the industry, aspiring youth and for his active involvement in the community.

Ty, who qualified from his Apprenticeship in December 2009, has progressed to the role of Site Supervisor for SAGE. This role, working as a close liaison with SAGE Project Managers, customers and on-site teams, ensures the smooth running of a project commissioning. One of his current projects is the installation of the Great Southern Rail carriage upgrades.

SAGE Managing Director Andrew Downs, who attended the award ceremony with Ty, commented on the important role that Apprentices have played in the success of SAGE, providing a highly skilled workforce. “SAGE has always been a great training ground for Apprentices, who are given many career opportunities to develop through our business. Some of our former Apprentices now hold senior management positions in the company” said Downs.

SAGE continues to place a strong emphasis on the Apprentice program as part of our ongoing workforce planning and development and currently employs 9 electrical apprentices.
